Western Australia · Centrelink still thinks they are single

Speaking to Centrelink on their behalf

Adding a nominee online requires both people to have a Centrelink online account linked to myGov — the parent's as well as yours. Dementia closes that door quietly, because nothing tells you the door was there. Services Australia will not discuss a pension with you, even as their child, unless you are recorded as a nominee. A correspondence nominee can deal with Centrelink on their behalf; a payment nominee can manage the money. When the online route is not available, the way through is the paper path: form SS313, backed by a power of attorney, with the nominee showing photo identification in person at a service centre. It is slower and it is not obvious, but it exists.
